Oktoberfest Attendees Lose Their Driving Licenses for ‘Drunk-Scooting’
Oktoberfest has resulted in a handful of attendees losing their driving licenses due to “drunk-scooting.”
Per CNN Travel, 414 people were arrested by local German police after they were using e-scooters under the influence following the popular beer festival. Of those caught, 254 people lost their driving license.
How could “drunk-scooting” result in someone losing their license? In Germany, the e-scooter is classified as a motor vehicle, so it falls under the same laws as operating a car.
To add to the madness of it all, Germany had only legalized e-scooters this past June, so added measures were taken by local police to prevent people from abandoning the scooters on the grounds of Okotoberfest. Considering approximately six million people attend Oktoberfest each year, the police had things pretty under control.
