If you listen to Praise Detroit you no doubt have heard Darlene McCoy; the effervescent host of the nationally syndicated show The Nightly Spirit. What you may not know is that Darlene is the first African American woman to be syndicated on an evening gospel radio show with six-million listeners heard in 46 cites through Reach Media.

McCoy was introduced to the world as a National Recording artist on the soundtrack to Tyler Perry’s first Movie “Diary of a Mad Black Woman.” Later, her first self –titled CD was released on Capital/EMI and produced by music mogul Dallas Austin earning her two Dove award nominations and a Grammy nod. Darlene is also a comedian, writer and speaker who is breaking the stigma of what church looks like in 2020.

I had the opportunity to talk to my friend on the debut of her new project, “Jesus Was Eclectic (Decades)” and chatted about her journey, the title of her EP and the lead single “Walk” which has a message that will make stop your whining.

"Jesus Was Eclectic (Decades)" is available wherever you get your digital music."Catch Darlene on IG: DarleneMcCoy, FB: DarleneMcCoy, Twitter: IAMDarlene and on her website: iamdarlene.com

Randi Myles is the mid-day host on Detroit’s Praise Network. Randi’s mom knew she was destined to be in some form of entertainment when even as a small child, she would pretend a pencil was a microphone and sing and charm family and friends. Later she would sing in church and college choirs. However, it wasn’t until she attended Specs Howard School of Media Arts, that Ms. Myles would find her true voice. Randi enjoys writing about the city of Detroit, faith, and the community.
