Detroit Will Now Pay Frontline Workers Extra $800 A Month In Hazard Pay
This hazard pay will be issued to those with public-facing jobs in six different departments.
Some employees will get an extra $5 an hour for every hour they work.
Duggan said it will apply to workers like police, fire and DDOT, along with other city departments like water, health and building safety. Since firefighters work in shifts, they will receive an extra $90 per shift.
The hazard pay will apply to dispatchers and call takers, as well…
“I intend to leave this order in place as long as the emergency is here,” Duggan said.
The mayor also said that 200 Detroit workers on the front lines have been diagnosed with COVID-19 so far. The city has lost three members of the police force, one firefighter, one DDOT driver and two inspectors at the building safety and engineering department.
