Detroit Juneteenth Celebrations Continue Through the Weekend
Juneteenth celebrations, many of them virtual, have been going strong all week, as Detroit residents commemorate the ending of slavery in the U.S.
If you haven’t had the chance to participate in any yet, there are more later today (June 19) and this weekend.
The annual Juneteenth Jubilee Live! is going online this year, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The event will feature special, online programming that viewers can watch via Facebook and other social platforms.
The virtual event is tonight (June 19) from 6:19 p.m.-7:30 p.m.. For more information, go here. The event is free.
Detroit Book City’s Juneteenth Black Author Virtual Book Fair, hosted by Southfield’s Detroit Book City, is another local event, which boasts “a lively conversation every 15 minutes.”
The online event runs all weekend, featuring authors in many different genres. Saturday’s online events will focus on children’s books, and Sunday’s will be on spiritual and self-help genres.
The Juneteenth Black Author Virtual Book Fair begins today (June 19) at 6 p.m. It also runs Saturday at noon and Sunday at 2 p.m. The event is free. For information, head to Detroitbookcity.com.
