Regis Philbin, Iconic Talkshow Host, Has Passed Away
Regis Philbin has passed away at 88 years old. Per TMZ, “Regis died Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack at his home in Manhattan, New York.” They add that he had been battling heart disease for many years and had an angioplasty done in the ’90s, and a triple bypass surgery in 2007.
In a statement from the family, they say, “His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him – for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career.”
Regis had a successful career beginning in the 1950s, where he got his start on the Tonight Show. His big break was in 1988 when he began co-hosting Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee. He later did the show with Kelly Ripa up until 2011, when he retired.
Regis Philbin is survived by his wife, Joy.
