4 a.m. Closing Time for Bars Could Happen in Michigan
Could a 4 a.m. bar closing time be in the cards for Michigan? It’s possible.
House Bill 4213 was just approved in a 77-27 vote, which would allow bars and restaurants with on-premises liquor licenses remain open until 4 a.m., so long as their local government body votes to permit late-night liquor sales.
If law, bar owners would be required to apply for a late-night permit with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission and pay an annual fee of $250.
Both republicans and democrats supported the bill this week, but groups such as the Michigan Council on Alcohol Problems and Michigan Alcohol Policy Promoting Health and Safety are opposed to the idea.
To become law, the bill — which was sponsored by Rep. Ryan Berman, R-Commerce Township. — would have to be passed by the Michigan Senate and signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
