Women’s History Month: Meisha Porter Named 1st Black Woman as Chancellor of NYC Schools
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced last month that he appointed Meisha Porter as the next Chancellor of New York City Public Schools. Porter will be the first Black woman to head the largest school district in the nation and will begin her role on March 15th.
As a New York City public school graduate and 20-year veteran in the system, Mayor de Blasio stated that Meisha Porter is, “a homegrown New Yorker who knows what it takes to give every kid the high quality public school education they deserve.” (Source: BlackEnterprise.com)
“To all the little girls out there, I'm saving a seat for you."
