The next time you go to the Michigan Secretary of State, you'll have to make an appointment, as the SOS has announced that all in-person transactions will now require an appointment before you go.

The SOS moved to an appointments-only system last June, due to the coronaivrus pandemic.

"The branch office by appointment model is working and yes, it is a new way of doing things," Jocelyn Benson, Secretary of State of Michigan, said in a statement. "But it’s a better way of doing things."

As for why the change, a release states that part of the reason is that 60% of transactions already take place outside of a branch office, up 30% from last year.

It's still not always easy to get a quick appointment, so the MDOS is increasing the number of appointments available by 10%, which add roughly 35,000 appointments a month.
