June is African-American Music Appreciation Month in the U.S.
It's a month where we appreciate and honor the contributions of African-American musicians, composers, singers, artists and songwriters in every genre.
President Jimmy Carter designated June as Black Music Month back in 1979, and in 2000, the presidential proclamation for the month was signed by President Bill Clinton.
In 2009, President Barack Obama renamed the month from Black Music Month to African-American Music Appreciation Month.
Let's celebrate the great works of African-American artists all month.
