Juneteenth Events in Metro Detroit
Juneteenth is an important holiday honoring the emancipation of slaves in the United States.
The holiday is celebrated on June 19 in the United States, but Juneteenth events run all month long.
Below are a collection of events taking place in the Detroit area in honor of Juneteenth.
Juneteenth Film Festival
When: June 4-30
Where: Emagine Royal Oak and Frankfort
“Our Juneteenth Film Festival at Emagine Royal Oak and Frankfort is to honor Black actors/actress, writers, directors and filmmakers through featuring films that present compelling moral stories and educate on racism and Black history,” Emagine says in a statement. Tickets run $5, and all proceeds going to the UNCF.

Juneteenth Jubilee Freedom Weekend
When: June 17-19
Where: The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
“Education. Economic Independence. Engagement. These themes define our Juneteenth Jubilee Freedom Weekend,” the museum says in a statement. The Wright will celebrate online, with some in-person elements.

Movie Night in the D Juneteenth Jubilee
When: 7-10 p.m. June 18
Where: Campus Martius Park
The movie “Concrete Cowboys” we be shown at Campus Martius Park, starring Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin. The free event is in collaboration with the Charles H. Wright Museum and Detroit Downtown Partnership. The event is free. Bring your own chair or blanket for the lawn.

Juneteenth Jubilee Stroll on the Historic Avenue of Fashion
When: June 19, 12-6 p.m.
Where: Check in at Best Artist Management, 19954 Livernois, Detroit
The Juneteenth Jubilee Stroll is a “unique shopping experience supporting Detroit Black businesses along the Livernois Avenue of Fashion,” and “each participating business will provide a discount or tangible benefit for registered shoppers,” according to a statement. The event will also feature a live podcast, health and wellness resources, raffles and more.

Detroit Black Wall Street Juneteenth Celebration
When: June 19, 1:45-6 p.m.
Where: 21380 Coolidge Highway, Oak Park

Juneteenth Mobility Stroll & Roll
When: June 19, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Downtown Dearborn
The route will begin at Michigan Avenue and Schaefer and end at City Hall Park. The Stroll and Roll will also have an array of fun activities for kids, including a Kid’s Zone and a Mobility Zone.

The Detroit Music Project’s 3rd Annual Juneteenth Freedom Day Fireworks Celebration
When: June 19, 9 p.m.-11 a.m.
Where: Model T Plaza (Woodward and Manchester)
A family-friendly events featuring fireworks and more. Wear masks and bring lawn chairs. There’s also an option to watch online.

Shionne Designs Juneteenth House Party
When: June 19, starting at 6 p.m.
Where: 195 West Nine Mile, Suite 109 in Ferndale
“The celebration continues! Shionne Designs marks 25 years in business and Juneteenth with a house party featuring DJ Vibez,” they state in a release. “Check out our wide and varied selection of handmade designs, created by artists local and from around the globe.”
