Michigan Storm Update: Where to Expect 8 to 14 Inches of Snow
We’ve dodged the snow for long enough, and Mother Nature is ready to hit Michigan with a lot of the white stuff. A major winter storm is expected to impact much of lower Michigan from Wednesday into Thursday (Feb. 2 to 3). Many areas of Michigan could easily get more than 10 inches of snow, as there is lots of moisture with this storm. I’m not a happy camper about this storm, because I greatly dislike snow, but we do live in Michigan, so it’s not a big surprise.
So, where is the heaviest amount of snow expected to fall? According to multiple reports, southern Michigan is likely to get the biggest snowfall, especially the area from Toledo to north of Jackson. As for major cities, Detroit is expected to get hit hard, while Lansing and Grand Rapids are on track to miss the heaviest amounts of snow- but, that could change. Read on for the specifics.
According to Weather.com and the National Weather Service, the snow should start Wednesday, with much of it locally heavy. Travel will be hazardous. If you travel throughout the southern part of Michigan, expect travel to be even worse.
Wednesday night, snow gets a bit lighter, but Thursday, the snow returns to cap off the storm. Right now, the storm appears to be on a southern track, meaning Jackson, Detroit and Toledo could get pummeled. According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening for portions of Southeast Michigan, and snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches are possible. If the storm shifts northern, our friends in Lansing and above could get impacted, too. Either way, be ready for a big storm this week, and plan accordingly.
