Black History Makers: First Black-Female Owned Figure-Skating Club Opens Right Here In Detroit
Actually, the Dream Detroit Skating Academy is the first Black-female owned figure skating club in all of Michigan. Wait, one more thing, the academy is also Detroit’s first female-owned figure skating academy. Angela Blocker-Loyd, Crystal Stewart and Candice Tamakloe run the academy held inside the Adam Butzel Recreation Center’s Jack Adams Memorial Ice Arena. Tamakloe told the Detroit Free Press that, “There has never been a skater at the national or international level to come out of the city of Detroit. We want to bring that quality back into the city.” (Source: TheGrio.com)
