Summer is on the way, and the warm season is the perfect time to enjoy some friend chicken. Actually, friend chicken is good during any season, but summer barbecues are often a great opportunity to down some crispy, friend chicken legs and breasts.

So, when it comes to Michigan, who has the best friend chicken in the state? Yelp has complied a list of the most popular places to get fried chicken in Michigan for the month of May 2022. The list is based on tons of user reviews, so you know it's accurate.

So, who's No. 1? The top honor goes to Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, which actually has locations across the U.S. and multiple locations in the Mitten. Here in Michigan, one of the Yelp reviews states (via Jennifer C.), "Favorite place to stop in all of Detroit. Bone in chicken is where it's at. Don't forget to fill up on sweet tea before you leave." Another one from Jillian T. says, "If you love Fried Chicken and other fried things, get over here! It's finger licking good! The chicken has the perfect amount of batter on it, and it's fried to a golden crunchiness. But, still juicy inside. Crispy outside, juicy inside. Never dry. Besides the fried food, they have Chess Pie! So yummy and refreshing! They have lots of flavors..."

No. 2 on the list is a locally-owned spot, which is always a good thing: Fat Daddy's Hot Chicken & Waffles in Riverview. One Yelp review from Jeff D. states, "If you've been paying any attention to the hot chicken scene in the Metro Detroit area, you will have absolutely heard Fat Daddy's come into the conversation... I'm here to tell you it absolutely lives up to the hype...The food is fantastic, the portions are huge, and it's hot without being so hot that you're going to be in pain the next day. Can you really ask for more? I submit that you cannot. I will absolutely be back, and do yourself a favor, join me. If you're remotely interested in the best Hot Chicken you'll find in Metro Detroit, look no further than Fat Daddy's."

It's almost camping season, and it's no secret that Michiganders love to camp. Michigan is one of the most beautiful states for camping, as evidenced by our many great parks, campgrounds and lakes. I'm actually not a bit camper, but I do know it's a super popular activity this time of year.

Pure Michigan is always on top of the best vacation spots in the Mitten, and they've put together a list of 10 of the most beautiful campgrounds in Michigan.

The No. 1 campground on their list is Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise, Michigan. Of the area, Pure Michigan states, "Take in the sights of one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The Upper Falls stretches 50 feet high and more than 200 feet wide, deservingly making it a must-see attraction. But with more than 40 miles of hiking trails, 13 inland lakes and approximately 20,000 acres of natural area, there’s more to love about the park than just its majestic waterfall." That sounds lovely to me!

Out of this list, I most want to visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Empire. I've heard it's one of the most gorgeous spots in America, so that's on my to-visit list at some point. I've actually been to Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg for a hike and definitely recommend it. Reach out to me on social media on Facebook here.
