Former Michigan State Basketball Player Adreian Payne Shot and Killed at 31
Former Michigan State basketball star Adreian Payne has passed away, according to the Detroit Free Press. Payne, 31, was shot and killed Monday morning (May 9) in Orlando, Florida.
According to the Free Press, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida responded to a call at 1:37 a.m. of a man who had been shot. Payne was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
A suspect has been arrested in the shooting, 29-year-old Lawrence Dority. He’s being charged with first-degree murder.
Payne was on the Spartans’ team from 2010-14. He had a deep friendship with a little girl from St. Johns who had cancer, Lacey Holsworth, who was a huge Spartans basketball fan. She passed away following the 2013-14 season.
