Is the term "hipsters" still a thing? It seems kind of, well, unhip at this point, but all joking aside, some cities in America are better for so-called hipsters than others. When it comes to Michigan, one city stands out.

LawnStarter.com has put together a list of 2022's Best Cities for Hipsters. "If you love all things indie, vintage, and obscure, then you’re likely to thrive in one of 2022’s Best Cities for Hipsters," they state. "That’s why LawnStarter ranked the 200 biggest U.S. cities: to help maximize your chances of finding a circa 1970s alpaca wool coat, cage-free eggs, and just chill vibes. We looked at 30 anti-cool factors — from access to thrift stores, farmers markets, and vinyl to unicycle- and morning rave-friendliness."

In Michigan, Grand Rapids was ranked the best city for hipsters. The city came in at No. 36 in the nation for its hipster qualities. Detroit also scored fairly high on the list, coming in at No. 62. That's out of 199, so pretty good showing. Unfortunely, in another part of the study, Detroit was named one of the worst cities for being urban-garden friendly. That surprises me, because I know of lots of great organizations around Detroit that help people with urban gardening.

The No. 1 city in the country for hipsters is New York City, according to the study. LawnStarter.com states, "The undisputed Hipster Capital of America is also our No. 1 Best City for Hipsters this year, dethroning 2021’s gold medalist, San Francisco. The Big Apple swept three out of four categories and ranked only behind Baghdad by the Bay in Lifestyle. Zooming in, there are more thrift stores, record stores, independent bookstores, vegan and vegetarian restaurants, and other crucial hipster must-haves in New York than in the other 199 cities we ranked." I happen to think that Michigan has plenty of amazing places to live. From the beauty of the UP to the hustle and bustle of the major cities, Michigan really has something for everyone. If you've ever wondered what would be the best place in Michigan to live, we have the answer.

Niche has released the outlet's annual Best Places to Live rankings, which ranks the best cities and communities to live in judging by a variety of criteria. According to Niche, the results were based on several key factors, such as the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities. Using all of that data, they put together a list of the best cities to live in Michigan for 2022.

Going outside of Michigan, the handful of cities at the top of the list includes Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania; City Center, California; Penn Wynee, Pennsylvania; and Houserville, Pennsylvania. Gosh, that's a lot of love for Pennsylvania. I've been to that state many times, and it's beautiful, but I had no idea it had so many cities that would be considered the best in the U.S. In Michigan, the highest-rated city was Okemos, coming in at No. 12 for the entire country. I am very familiar with Okemos and totally agree it's a great place to be, so that result doesn't really surprise me.

I was surprised to see Ann Arbor at No. 12, since they are usually No. 1 on these lists. That said, No. 12 is pretty great. I was also hoping to see Detroit on here. Needless to say, all the cities on here are deserving, but remember to venture outside of this list, since Michigan is packed with great spots to live.
