At some point in time everyone deals with some kind of stress. It could happen while running late for work or the stress of trying to avoid running into someone you’d rather not talk to at the grocery store. When it comes to states some are more stressed than others. Wallet Hub ranked every state from the most stressed out to the least. They compared the 50 states across 41 indicators of stress to determine the places that are both high and low in stress. Their data included average hours worked per week, the personal bankruptcy rate, and the amount of sleep adults get every night. We wanted to see how Michigan fared on the stress scale.

The most stressed states are Mississippi and Louisiana. While the least stressed are Minnesota and Utah.

Based on the study, the most-stressed states are in the south such as Mississippi, Louisiana, New Mexico, West Virginia, Nevada, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, and Oklahoma.

According to the study, the least stressed states are Minnesota, Utah, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Massachusetts, Iowa, New Jersey, Connecticut, North Dakota, and Virginia.

Where did Michigan fall on the list?

Michigan was ranked number 21 on their list. Not too stressed but not exactly “low stressed.” The state had a total score of 45.31. Factored in that score is stress related to work, money, family, health, and safety.

Work-related stress in Michigan had an average of 42 out of 100. The higher the number, the least stressed that state is. Mississippi, the number 1 ranked most -stressed state scored a 4 for work-related stress. Money-related stress in Michigan was at 29. Minnesota, the least-stressed state had an average score of 50.

Michigan’s average for family-related stress was 11. Meanwhile, the state's health and safety average was at 18.
