Driving can be dangerous. There are several factors to be aware of simultaneously while driving. This includes road conditions, your speed and position, observing traffic laws, signs, signals, road markings, and more.

Recently, Assurance compiled data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in order to find the most dangerous days to drive in each state. "It's estimated that a fatal car accident occurs once every 16 minutes," they stated. "We sourced fatal car accident data from the NHTSA and looked at factors like the number of licensed drivers and roadway miles in each state, according to data provided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)."

According to NHTSA, there were more than 31,700 deaths due to car crashes in the first 9 months of 2022. Meanwhile, roadway fatalities seem to be a disturbingly high statistic with over 38,800 total fatalities in 2020.

Some people believe that weekdays are more dangerous than weekends because of workday traffic or weekday construction. However, that's not the case. Surprisingly, the weekends were the most dangerous days to drive across all states.

Overall, the data shows that the most dangerous day to drive is Saturday. The day that we look forward to the most after a long work week, accounts for the highest number of accidents in 42 states. This includes Michigan, with a total of 840 fatalities in 2022.

When it comes to weekdays Thursdays are the worst days to drive for Michiganders along with 24 other states.

As far as the safest day to drive during the week is concerned, the study found that Tuesdays are the best. There were only seven states experiencing high rates of fatalities. States including Pennsylvania, Idaho, and Arkansas experienced the highest rates of car crash deaths on Tuesday, excluding the weekend.
