Getty ImagesIf you're on a dating app, you're not alone. I remember a time when dating apps were not necessarily rare, but not to the point where not everyone in the world was using one. Now, literally every friend I have who is single is on a dating app. As it turns out, in Michigan, one dating app stands above the rest.
DatingNews.com just released a new study that pinpoints the most popular dating apps in the U.S. by state. Lots of the big names are in there, like ChristianMingle, Match, Tinder, Coffee Meets Bagel, eharmony, Bumble and more. In the article, they explains, "Location is one of the most important factors in the online dating scene, especially if you’re hoping to meet a new person quickly. Dating app popularity can vary widely by region, so it’s good to have a working knowledge of the trends, habits, and patterns in each state."
According to the story, "serious dating sites like Match and eharmony have remained popular generation after generation, serving everyone from Baby Boomers to Gen Z." So, those are obvious bread-and-butter ones.
Michigan: Popular Dating App Result
So, which dating app is the most popular in Michigan? We are apparently traditionalists, because it's Match. They call it a "serious dating service established in 1995." Since the most people in Michigan are on this app, you technically have the best odds of finding someone using Match. According to a different article from DatingAdvice.com, the most popular dating app in America right now is not Match, it's Tinder. Match is actually No. 14 on the list. Are you single and looking to mingle and maybe find something more in Michigan? If so, there are a handful of cities that are apparently the best in the state to find true love- or at least a great date.
A new study from HomeSnacks.com has determined the 10 best cities for singles in the Wolverine State. They looked at a variety of factors and crunched the numbers. "To give you the places in Michigan which are best for singles to find one another, we have to look at a handful of metrics," HomeSnacks.com states. "Of course, we want to measure the type of people who live in each city, and make some assumptions about what single people like."
"We threw a lot of criteria at this one in order to get the best, most complete results possible," they added. They also used the 2016-2020 American Community Survey Census data produced for the state of Michigan to look at each city in the state, paying close attention to population density; % of population that's male vs. female (closer to a 50-50 ratio is better); % of households with kids; median age; and number of unmarried people in each city. They then gave each town a "Singles Score," with the higher the score, the better the city is for singles to find one another. They also limited the results to cities with populations over 10,000 people, which means 88 cities.
HomeSnacks.com also pointed out that according to the Pew Research Center, the number of Americans who have remained single (not married) is going up. They also stated that Michigan ranks in the top 10 when it comes to number of people over the age of 18 who aren't married or in a serious relationship. That makes it, overall, a good state to find love. Read on for the top 25 Michigan cities for singles, and best of luck at finding true love.
By the way, Detroit came in at No. 17 on the list, so just outside the top 15.
15. Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park, just outside of Detroit, is considered great for singles. Who would have thought?
14. Dearborn
Dearborn, another Detroit suburb, is also high on this list. It's apparently a good place to find love.
13. Hamtramck
Another Detroit-area city, Hamtramck, is also high on the list for being a good area to find the love of your life.
12. Lansing
I grew up in Lansing, and I actually never thought it was a good city for singles. It was too small, and most of my friends didn't think it was good for dating, either. But, it's No. 12 on this list.
11. Grand Rapids
This makes sense. Grand Rapids is not a large city, but not a small city, either. It's a popular area, so with that perfect size and popularity, I'm not surprised it's No. 11 on this list.
10. Highland Park
The Detroit area is great for finding singles, according to this list. Highland Park is another one that made the cut, coming in at No. 10.
9. Auburn Hills
Another Detroit-area spot, Auburn Hills, is inside the top 10 at No. 9 on this list. It's definitely a nice part of the Detroit metro area.
8. Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant is known for its casinos, but how about dating? It's surprisingly No. 8 on this tally.
7. Marquette
Woah. Marquette is a very cold area, but it's beautiful. I didn't realize it was such a hotspot for dating.
6. Royal Oak
Royal Oak is certainly a shot spot for young adults in the Detroit area. It's considered one of the best areas in Michigan to meet your love.
5. Kalamazoo
Kalamazoo is a smaller city, but it's a college town, and maybe that's one reason why it's a high No. 5 on the list of cities for singles.
4. Ferndale
Like Royal Oak, Ferndale is a great spot for young adults. It's also one of the best areas for singles in Michigan.
3. Ypsilanti
Somewhere between Ann Arbor and Detroit is Ypsilanti, and it's considered one of the best places for singles in the state.
2. East Lansing
Home of the MSU Spartans, East Lansing is No. 2 on this list. I went to MSU and can attest to the fact it's a great area for dating. Not always serious, but dating.
1. Ann Arbor
Here we go! Ann Arbor, home of the Wolverines, is No. 1 on this list. College towns are great places to meet people, and hence, find love.
