Detroit Pistons, New Coach Details:

Williams, the former New Orleans and Phoenix Suns head coach, took the Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021. He also helped turn the team around during his time there. He was let go in May. It was just after the Suns were eliminated in six games by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs. Honestly, I was shocked when the Suns let him go, and I do think think Williams has what it takes to help this franchise.

News of Williams coming to Detroit broke on June 2, with Gores sounding confident in his pick. "After spending some time with Monty, it’s clear that he’s found a unique balance between achieving victory at the highest level while at the same time nurturing a culture of growth, development and inspiration," Gores said at the time. "I'm beyond excited. This is a huge win for us."
