It is an unfortunate reality that there are individuals in the world who resort to stealing, driven either by the pursuit of financial gain or the craving for internet attention. To address the increasing auto theft problem, local officials formed an auto theft task force in June, aiming to combat this issue locally. Recently, Money Geek updated their list of the most stolen vehicles in every state.

They gathered stats from the Insurance Information Institute and data from the National Insurance Crime Bureau to compile a list of the most stolen cars nationwide and in each state.

In the United States, the most stolen vehicle's top spot is the Chevrolet full-size pickup truck. Right behind it at number two is the Ford full-size pickup truck, closely followed by the Honda Civic.

According to the financial resource website, the most stolen vehicle in Michigan is a Dodge Charger. Following closely at number two is the Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee, and at the third position is the Chevrolet Pickup (full size).

According to their report, the number of reported motor vehicle thefts across all states came close to a million. However, certain locations have higher theft rates than others. For instance, Colorado tops the charts with a theft rate of 661.21 per 100,000 residents, and the top 10 most stolen cars make up almost 31% of these incidents.

On the opposite end, Maine boasts the lowest theft rate among all states, standing at 60.7 per 100,000 residents. Almost 27% of these thefts were from the top 10 list of stolen cars.

Despite the alarming report, the website did provide valuable advice on protecting your car from theft. Some tips include always locking doors and windows when the car is not in use. Never leave keys inside the vehicle. Another tip they offered is installing safety devices such as alarms, steering wheel locks, or GPS trackers. Also, a helpful tip would be opting for safe parking areas that are well-lit and monitored.
