Ranking the Detroit Lions: Are They Really This Good? Jeremy Reisman on ‘The Squad’
Anyone who is a lifelong Detroit Lions fan knows how crazy it sounds to actually hear that the Detroit Lions are not only 5-1 but also tied as the No. 1 ranked team in the NFL right now. But, are they really this good? It maybe seem like a silly question. Look at the stats. They’re obviously good. But, just how good are the Lions this year? When it comes to ranking the Detroit Lions, here’s my take.
It’s difficult to make the argument that the Detroit Lions aren’t one of the top five best teams in the NFL. Let’s look at the teams they’re tied up with right now. The other NFL teams are the 49ers, Eagles, Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions already beat the Kansas City Chiefs. But, the Lions haven’t come up against the other teams. Still, looking back at last season’s opening Lions game against the Eagles, you might remember that the Lions almost won that game. That close loss looked even more impressive as the Eagles’ season went on. Eventually, the Eagles even made it to the Super Bowl. With the Eagles struggling lately and dealing with a lot of injuries, the Lions look like they could beat them right now.
Now, the 49ers are a different story. Despite their surprising loss last weekend, the 49ers still seem like the most well-rounded team in the NFL and the team to beat. Finally, the Dolphins also look solid, but like the Eagles, there’s nothing in their recent performances on the field that would indicate they can or will beat the Lions. Moreover, as I’m sure you know, both the 49ers and Eagles are no longer undefeated in the NFL.
