Michigan Sand Dunes Are Among The Most Magnificent In The U.S.
If you travel along the lower peninsula of Michigan, you will undoubtedly find some stunning sites along Lake Michigan. One of them is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore.
In fact, this area was named among the best sand dunes in America in a recent feature by the Travel Channel. “These massive sand mountains around the U.S. are worth taking a few vacation days,” Travel Channel states about the eight places their feature highlights.
Of the eight magnificent sand dunes in America named in the Travel Channel’s feature, Sleeping Bear Dunes was the only location in the Midwest to make the list.
“Named the ‘Most Beautiful Place in America’ on ABC’s Good Morning America”
Upon exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes’ website, you will find they quickly call out that this region was named the “Most Beautiful Place in America” by Good Morning America. Sitting 45o feet above Lake Michigan, there are endless views of natural beauty. In addition, this is the largest freshwater sand dune in the world.
“On the edge of Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has the best of both worlds: a cool, shady forest for summertime camping, and steep dunes that appear to be the edge of the world,” Travel Channel explains.
In the national park area of Sleeping Bear, you can go camping, go on a canoe trip, or embark on the dune climb excursion. Along the waters, there are beaches to enjoy where you can go fishing, sailing, or scuba diving.
The National Park Service recognizes the Sleeping Bear Dunes as a place to dream and create. Furthermore, there’s still reason to adventure these dunes in the colder months of the year. Certain areas of Sleeping Bear Dunes allow sledding and snow-shoeing.
