Jared Jewelers and Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff held a special event on Tuesday (April 23) at The Detroit Club, in which the two presented a $50,000 check to Give Merit, a Detroit-based non-profit that helps improve high school graduation rates in the Motor City via the FATE program.

Goff and Jared Jewelers have a sponsorship together. After the Lions' incredible season, Goff "went to Jared" and gifted his offensive line with "Breitling Super Chronomat" watches valued at around $11,500. In addition to giving the $50,000 donation to Give Merit, Goff and Jared Jewelers hand-picked three Lions supporters - Detroit Lions security director Elton Moore, U.S. Military veteran and Wisconsin resident Michael Robinson and lifelong Lions fan Leon DeFever - to give Breitling timepieces, which are available at select Jared store locations. They were the same models that Goff gave to his offensive line earlier this year. What's more, Goff personally signed the inside lid of the boxes.

"Honoring Detroit with Jared Jewelers was a no brainer. This community and fanbase means so much to me, so I had to go to Jared to close out such an unbelievable season and show my love," Goff said at the event, where he was joined by his fiancée, Christian Harper. "The Jared brand is iconic, and their heart is huge. We talked a lot about Detroit’s loyalty and how the city is built on the same drive, grit and determination that my teammates and I take onto the field every Sunday. Give Merit and these fans are so deserving of recognition."

"The Motor City and its people are legendary," added Claudia Cividino, the president of Jared. "Resilience, growth, heart and passion all shine through the history of this community and season after season, the fans have shown up for their team. We have long had a presence here, but seeing the spirit of the region come to life this year was as good as gold. Like Goff, we know Detroit is a special place and are humbled by the dedication the community shows every day. It was our shared pleasure to support Give Merit and pay it forward to fans with these Breitling timepieces to match the Detroit offensive line."

Following the event, I had an exclusive interview with Goff. We talked about the Lions' successful season, the state of the NFC North, what it takes to be a strong quarterback and more. Listen to the interview via my podcast, "The Squad with Anne Erickson," below, and contact me here.
