Breaking: Biden Withdraws From 2024 Presidential Race
Endorses Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee.
President Joe Biden has announced he will not accept the nomination for the 2024 elections. This decision follows widespread calls for him not to run, citing concerns over his health and age.
According to MSNBC, it has been 56 years since a presidential candidate withdrew from the race. In 1968, Lyndon B. Johnson, who became president following Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963, won the 1964 election. However, as opposition to the Vietnam War increased, his popularity waned. Johnson’s Vice President, Hubert Humphrey, took his place on the ticket. The Republican challenger, Richard Nixon, ultimately won the election.

Vice President Kamala Harris issued a statement after President Joe Biden announced he would not run for reelection. Below is an excerpt from her statement:

We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states. As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad. The kind of father-and the kind of man-he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love of our country and the American people. With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.
