Cedar Point Closing Beloved Ride That Launched in the 1990s

They say all good things must come to an end, and hopefully that's not always true, but it is the case with Cedar Point closing a beloved ride. The time has come for a ride that's been a fixture at Cedar Point to close after more than three decades in operation. So, get out the tissues, and let's remember and celebrate this special ride. I certainly remember going on it as a kid.

Cedar Point has been around for decades, so some of their rides have also been a part of visitors' hearts and experiences for decades. One beloved ride has actually been going strong since 1993 but will soon end its operation. Cedar Point has announced that Snake River Falls, which has been in operation for a lengthy 31 years, will close forever on Labor Day. The park has made this decision to close the beloved ride because of its "plans for future expansion," Cedar Point officials say. They're keeping this expansion top-secret, as Cedar Point communications director Tony Clark said in a blog post, "What's that expansion? Of course we can't tell you that. Yet." So, news is coming soon.

At the time Snake River Falls opened, it was groundbreaking. When it opened to the public in 1993, the ride debuted as the "tallest, steepest and fastest water flume ride in the world."

The good news is that if you love this ride, you still have time to give it a run before Labor Day. Riders will be able to say goodbye to the legendary ride now through Sept. 2. Cedar Point also said they'll be holding some special "last splash" events in the coming weeks as a proper way to say farewell to this part of Cedar Point history. I remember going on this ride when I was a kid, and I loved it. So, I'm sad to see it go, but it had a fantastic run.

Snake River Falls is a "water Shoot-the Chutes ride," where riders are seated in a boat and plunge down a chute and a splash of water. If you're daring enough to experience the ride before it closes, Cedar Point says to "expect to get soaked by the tidal wave created by the boat during the splashdown. If that wasn’t enough, grab the perfect viewing spot on the observation bridge." So, expect to get splashed a lot, which is a good thing if it's really hot outside, as it has been the past few weeks.
