There's something quaint and old-fashioned about a bed and breakfast. Now, one Michigan bed and breakfast has been named one of the bets in the country by the travel experts at USA Today. I haven't been to a bed and breakfast in forever, so I'll definitely look into this place. The concept of the bed and breakfast is just so lovely, and these places always have fantastic breakfasts, so it's still a very popular thing, even though it's decades old.

Michigan Bed and Breakfast Among the Best

USA Today has a new tally out of the best bed and breakfast spots in America. The picks were first determined by their expert panel, and then, USA Today readers voted on their favorites. "If you're looking to experience the charm and hospitality of a destination, staying at a bed-and-breakfast can be a great idea," they note. "They offer a more intimate setting, where guests can get to know the hosts as well as other travelers," USA Today said, adding that, "not to mention, you'll enjoy a delicious home-cooked breakfast every morning, often featuring local specialties and fresh ingredients."

So, what's No. 1 on the tally? It's the Winchester Inn in Ashland, Oregon. This place takes you back in time, according to the experts at USA Today, with "21 well-appointed guest rooms and suites located in the main house, Heritage House, Carriage House, or one of the two cottages." They add that, "Guests of Winchester Inn can enjoy a two-course breakfast each morning, and, come dinner time, enjoy a meal at the on-site Alchemy Restaurant." So, it's really like a historic experience. "At the Winchester Inn, we believe that no detail is too small when it comes to making our guests feel treasured," the inn adds. "It truly is the small things that make a luxury hotel stay in Ashland so special."

Michigan has the No. 3 best bed and breakfast on the list, with Wickwood Inn in Saugatuck getting the honor. This spot, of course, is located right by Lake Michigan, so you have that beautiful waterfront view." In addition to the seasonally inspired breakfast, guests can also enjoy locally sourced charcuterie in the evenings," USA Today notes. "Guest accommodations range from cozy rooms to luxurious estate suites." The Wickwood Inn notes, "Originally built in 1937, the Colonial revival house later served as the family home of Frank Wicks, the mayor of Saugatuck. It was centrally located in downtown Saugatuck, just one block from the Chain Ferry that has crossed the Kalamazoo River since 1838."

The Wickwood Inn is located at 510 Butler Street in Saugatuck. I've been to Saugatuck many times but never this inn, so I'll have to look into it. Contact me with your favorite place to stay when it comes to bed and breakfast spots across America.
