Physicians to Transform Health Care Desert Into Medical Services Center on Detroit’s West Side
An abandoned medical center on Detroit’s west side will soon become a vital community healthcare resource. Epic Health plans to open a new health clinic in the 48238 ZIP code. The area has been identified as a healthcare desert because its residents face significant challenges in obtaining quality health care.
Brothers Dr. Greg Naman and Dr. Ted Naman, co-founders of Epic Health, are leading an initiative to provide health care to a community where approximately 70,000 residents lack reliable access to medical services.
The Namans’ newest project is transforming an old clinic, at 4059 W. Davidson St., into a state-of-the-art healthcare center that will open in April.
The clinic will contain several patient rooms, exam rooms, and an on-site medical laboratory to promote optimal patient care. An advanced care team area within the building will allow professionals to consult on patients’ care and treatment plans. Additionally, the facility’s second floor will house space for performing various procedures and a community center.
While the Namans weren’t raised in this neighborhood, they said the area’s lack of proactive primary care and prevention services has motivated them to accomplish this work.
”Being known as more of, like a health desert, not really having good representation from quality health care providers and the facilities that were there, are not up to par. Not up to our standards,” said Dr. Ted Naman in an interview with Local 4 News Detroit. “That’s really been a dream of ours to get a high-quality health center. Get the latest and greatest technology here.”
