The Pure Michigan campaign has boosted its push to make Detroit a go-to spot for travelers seeking trips close to home. Run by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, this statewide program partners with Visit Detroit to show off the city's museums, parks, and waterfront spaces.

New surveys reveal more Michigan residents plan getaways in 2026 than they did last year. People want experiences now like food tours, concerts, and quick city escapes.

Metro Detroit sees millions of visitors annually. They spend billions, based on economic reports from tourism groups. This visitor-driven economy keeps people working in hotels, restaurants, shows, and transit. Growth here strengthens local businesses and pushes more money into infrastructure that serves travelers.

Attractions pull people from the Midwest and farther out. The Detroit International Riverfront runs for miles beside the Detroit River. Parks, trails, and venues line the water. The Detroit Institute of Arts holds a massive collection and ranks among America's finest art museums.

Over in Dearborn, The Henry Ford museum complex presents exhibits on American ingenuity, transportation, and culture. Year-round, festivals and games give visitors a taste of the city's creative pulse.

Analysts say Detroit's rise as a destination tracks with travel trends. Shorter trips beat long international hauls for many. Hotels and entertainment here cost less than in bigger cities, making the area reachable for more budgets.

Pure Michigan spreads the word through ads, social posts, and ties with local tourism offices.
