The Detroit Institute of Arts wants submissions for its 5th Annual Wayne County High School Art Exhibition through March 22. High schoolers in grades 9 through 12 who attend schools in Wayne County can send in their creations for the summer show, according to Michigan Chronicle.
Chosen pieces will hang at the museum from June 18 through July 19. After that, the show moves to the Guardian Building. This gives students a second chance to show what they've made.
Students can send in art across several mediums—photography, painting, textiles, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics. Organizers want work that sparks interest, carries meaning, and makes an impact.
"Each year, we celebrate the extraordinary creativity of Wayne County's young artists," said Detroit Institute of Arts Director Salvador Salort-Pons. "We are proud to provide a platform where students can share their unique perspectives and artistic voices with museum visitors."
Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans said the show demonstrates the skill among local students. "This exhibition represents more than just artwork on display. It's a celebration of the incredible potential within our young people," Evans said. "Each submission tells a story, and I'm always amazed by the talent and passion that our high school artists bring to this exhibition. Your creativity matters, and this is your moment to shine."
The Tri-County millage makes the show possible. That funding supports free general admission for residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
Earlier years have featured work across many different styles. Students have created paintings, sculptures, and photographs. Each piece reflects how young people tell their stories through what they make.
Students who want to submit can find guidelines through the institution's entry portal. Applications are open now. The deadline is March 22.
Submissions and more details are available at the museum's Wayne County High School Art Exhibition page.
