Sweet 220, a Dearborn bakery, has sold out of thousands of cupcakes almost every day for four weeks after a TikTok review by Chow Down Detroit went viral. Owner Hassan Makki said the shop has brought on more workers to keep up with demand.

"Today we made 2,000 cupcakes, so I'm not trying to be out today," said Makki, according to WXYZ. Last Saturday the shop sold out of 1,800.

The pastry chef started his business in 2008 with his wife. They opened their current spot in 2011, where everything gets made from scratch.

One month ago, business was slow. Makki said inflation had hit the shop hard, with prices climbing on pastry products, plastic goods, cupcake containers, chocolate, and dairy.

Then, Chow Down Detroit visited. "He got a six-pack of cupcakes, and in his own words, his words ring in my head because I watch the video so much, he said, 'these might be the best cupcakes in metro Detroit,'" Makki said.

The influencer's review changed everything. Lines now snake outside before the bakery opens at eleven.

"I'd just like to just give this man his recognition because what he does for small businesses. It's unbelievable, and he's truly just a kind, humble human being," Makki said.
