The Macomb County Association of School Administrators and the Macomb Association of Curriculum Administrators will honor more than 60 teachers at their yearly awards ceremony on April 21. Three educators will receive special recognition among the nominees from elementary, middle, and high schools across the county.
Chelsey Pratt teaches K-5 music in South Lake Public Schools. Shannon Finkbeiner teaches 6th grade science in Armada Schools. Kira DeFrance works as a special education teacher at Eastpointe Public Schools. They were selected for the top honors. The ceremony has been held each year for the past 40 years.
James Sawyer, president of Macomb Community College, will be honored for his years of impact on public education in the county. School administrators and community members will attend the event to recognize the nominated educators.
"This annual celebration highlights the impact Macomb County Teachers have on our students, parents, and community members," said Dr. Alesia Flye, chief academic officer for the Macomb Intermediate School District, per Warren Today. "This is always such an exciting and memorable evening for our entire county because we are focused exclusively on celebrating educators."
Michael DeVault, superintendent for the Macomb Intermediate School District, praised the professionalism of all county teachers. Teaching is a profession focused on making a positive difference for students and their families, he mentioned.
"We celebrate these highly respected educators who devote their professional lives to ensuring a positive teaching and learning environment for each student," said Michael DeVault. "They are to be commended for their dedication to public education as they represent all Macomb County teachers."
All teachers prepare lessons that will make a difference for every student, according to Michael DeVault. He extended congratulations to all educators in the county.
