ECN work is centered in sustainable community development, a broad, interconnected approach that fosters inclusive social well-being. It encompasses the development of natural capital (land water and climate.), human capital (education, employment, health, relationships within the community), manufactured capital (built environment and infrastructure.), social capital (laws, rules, norms, politics), and knowledge capital (studies, plans, innovative approaches.).
ECN takes a localized approach to achieving broader sustainability goals, modeling effective sustainability practices and providing a counter-narrative to the model of gentrification, hoarding and resource depletion.
Towards this end, we seek to:
❖ Lead Lower Eastside Action Planning (LEAP) – to Facilitate Resident Driven Planning
❖ Revitalize Chandler Park – Housing, Greening and Repurposing Vacant Land
❖ Establishing a Good Stock Neighborhood plan from Van Dyke to Conner and from I-94 to Mack
❖ Connect People to Opportunities – through health promotion, economic mobility programming, entrepreneurship training, transportation studies, and partnership with others
❖ Create Young Leaders through programs centered at our Vault Teen Center, Summer Employment, and Youth-Centered LEAP planning
❖ Update the Mack Avenue Commercial Corridor from Conner to Cadieux by developing a shared vision for revitalization, investing in facades, updating branding and promoting reinvestment and improvement of public spaces
❖ Use open land – vacant lots – to promote beautiful, productive and recreational greenspace to improve the natural world and strengthen our neighborhoods?
❖ Promote Green awareness and engage with other organizations to promote an ecoresponsible community
❖ Promote investment in the homes of existing residents through donated and/or discounted repairs
❖ Facilitate purchase and affordable rehab of unoccupied homes through improved mechanisms for rental and ownership
❖ Preserve housing affordability through community land trusts
❖ Advocate on behalf of our residents to promote public policy that promotes equitable living
and redevelopment planning
