In celebration of Black History Month, UAW Ford is recognizing African Americans who have paved the way for others!
UAW Ford recognizes Marcellius Ivory –
Marcellius Ivory was the first African-American UAW Regional Director of UAW Region 1A from 1968-1976.
As regional director, Ivory created the Region 1A Advisory Council, which consisted of 15 local union presidents who advised on problems affecting Region 1A members. He was also the first regional director to establish a Youth Council, designed to help young people adjust to and become more involved in the labor movement.
Ivory was also involved in the political arena, at various times chairing the Wayne County UAW-CAP as well as the 1st and 13th Congressional District CAP Councils. He represented the UAW in the revision of Detroit’s City Charter during the early 1970’s.
