Detroit, Michigan, April 5, 2018. The Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity, Inc. launches its Voter’s Registration Commission on April 17, 2018 at the Russell Street Baptist Church, 8700 Chrysler Freeway Drive, Detroit, Michigan at 10:30a.m. The Wayne County Clerk, Mrs. Cathy M. Garrett and City Clerk, Mrs. Janice Winfrey will pin, swear-in and recognize the Council of Baptist Pastors in its volunteer service of increasing the voter registration numbers in Wayne County.

Wayne County Clerk, Mrs. Cathy M. Garrett will grant authorization to Wayne County Pastors and Ministers of the Council, to disburse, instruct and collect voter registration applications in churches on Sundays, after worship services, to members and citizens of Wayne County.

“Historically, it has been the churches who have led the charge for voter registration and mobilizing voters to get to the polls on Election Day. This is a worthwhile effort that will hopefully increase voter turnout in Wayne County,” said Wayne County Clerk Cathy M. Garrett.

“I cannot begin to express my deep appreciation to our Clerks, Mrs. Garrett and Mrs. Winfrey, for their willingness to allow the faith community to be actively involved in such a unique and meaningful way. We hope to have this Commission expanded to our ecumenical brothers and sisters to show that the voter registration process is not a denominational claim, but one that embraces all places of worship and leadership in Wayne County,” says Reverend Dr. Deedee M. Coleman, President of the Council.

Persons who have not voted since President Obama, those who went to the polls and their precinct had changed, those who have lost faith in the election process, those who have a stigma about voting, or if you want to check to see where you are in your eligibility to vote, are all being ask to register to vote. If in doubt, register!

“I believe that an appropriate appeal from pastors across the City, will bring about higher registration numbers in Wayne County,” says Coleman.

The Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity, Inc. is a national body of 100 plus spiritual leaders and congregations united to strategically plan, implement and execute transformative and generational change, The Council was organized to nurture, train and educate Pastors and ministers, as well as the offering of leadership to the community at-large on issues that affect the well-being of us all.
