This Friday, July 20th, at 12:00pm, the Washtenaw Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights (WICIR) will team up with Michigan United to deliver over 400 postcards to the ICE Field Office in Detroit. Postcards were signed by participants of the June 30th Families Belong Together Rally in Ann Arbor, demanding a halt in deportations and inhumane immigration policies. Rally organizers will hand in postcards at the ICE Field Office and hold a brief press conference to express our support for immigrants and demand a stop in deportations.

Participants of the rally wrote messages to Rebecca Adducci, the Director of the Detroit ICE Field Office, protesting her extreme implementation of Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy and the use of violent tactics and racial profiling against Latino and Arab-American immigrants in our community. One rally attender wrote, “You have the authority to stop the deportation of parents in our community. You have the authority to stop the effective orphaning of the children in our community. Immigration is already at its lowest rate in decades. There is no justification for this child abuse, this crime against humanity!”

We now come together to make our dissenting voices heard and show that Detroit and Ann Arbor are united in our commitment to keep immigrant families together.
