The case in the 16-year old student who was stabbed and killed at Fitzgerald High School in Warren earlier this week is beginning to unfold. The 17-year old student involved in the stabbing has been apprehended and charged with first-degree murder. The student named Tanaya Lewis was arraigned this afternoon and will remain in jail without bail until further notice.
The Detroit Free Press reported the news, in the article Warren police Detective claims that Lewis allegedly had no remorse, and had a smile on her face during the attack. The Detroit Free Press also reports that Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith states that Lewis chased the victim around the room during the attack. This is reportedly the first homicide at a Macomb County school.
The victim, Danyna Gibson was a straight-A student who was active in extra-curricular activities like the marching band. The school held a vigil for the fallen victim on Thursday and Macomb county police were actively patrolling the school during it.
Lewis apparently attacked Gibson because she thought that she was telling her boyfriend that she was cheating on him. Other schools in the Macomb County District are planning to have moments of silence or acknowledging the event at events during or after the school day.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim, Danyna Gibson in their time of mourning.
