Follow @LBeasley313Since the off-season began, Southfield (Mich.) 2016 running back Matt Falcon and Detroit Cass Tech (Mich.) 2016 corner-back LaVert Hill have been racking up offers like clock-work and on Friday, both young men added some new offers to their already impressive offer sheets.
Falcon earns an offer the NIU Huskies
For the last few months, it seemed the state of Ohio, just couldn’t get enough of Falcon, seeing that he holds offers from Ohio State, Cincinnati, Akron and Toledo. Well after conquering the state of Ohio and earning offers from Wake Forest and NC State, he is now moving into new territory, because on Friday afternoon, Falcon announced that he had received his seventh scholarship offer from Northern Illinois.
Now for those who don’t know, Falcon missed his entire sophomore season with a torn ACL, but he hasn’t let that hold him back from being recruited because since getting back on the field, he hasn’t missed a beat.
Although he missed his entire sophomore season, it’s clear to see why more and more college coaches are becoming interested in Falcon and taking the time to extend an offer. At 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, Falcon has a great combination of speed and vision to make defenders miss in the open field but he also has the unique power-rushing ability to break tackles and gain the tough yardage.
It’s because of those facts above, that I say it’s only a matter of time before he earns more offers, preferably from other major football programs.
Hill goes into Buckeye territory and walks away with an offer from Ohio State.
Earlier this week, the Michigan Wolverines extended an offer to Hill and from there on, I knew it was only a matter of time before the Ohio State Buckeyes offered him.
Well on Friday evening, after shining at the Buckeyes’ Friday Night Lights camp, Hill earned an offer from the Buckeyes, making this his eighth scholarship offer.
Rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 240 overall player in the class by Scout.com, Hill already holds offers from Michigan, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Illinois and Temple.
It’s clear to see why the Buckeyes decided to offer Hill. At 5-foot-8, Hill is an outstanding cover man with great instincts and hip fluidity. He certainly has great speed seeing that he reportedly ran a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash at Miami and Penn State’s football camps and he ran a 4.3 in the 40 yard dash at North Carolina’s camp. On top of all of that, he also has good patience and good technique, plus he has great footwork and an amazing feel for what is coming at him, making it hard for any quarterback who throws his way and any wide receiver who tries to get open and make a play.
Although, I don’t expect Hill to commit anytime soon, keep in mind that the Buckeyes are no strangers to recruiting Cass Tech Technicians or in the city of Detroit for that matter. Ohio State landed top corner-back Damon Webb in the 2014 class from the Technicians and have quickly become a major player in the Detroit-area high school. So don’t think about underestimating the Buckeyes when it comes to their chances of gaining an commit from Hill when the time comes.
In the meantime, I have no doubt that Hill will continue to gain more offers from the country’s top college football programs, so don’t be surprised if you hear his name again very soon.
