Michigan Spot Named the No. 1 Best for Fall Colors in America
If you love leaf peeping and live in Michigan, then you might be thrilled to find out that one Michigan area has been named the best for fall colors in America by experts. It’s pretty awesome to think that we don’t have to go far to see the most glorious display of fall colors in the country. Note that according to the weather experts at the Weather Channel, fall foliage in northern Michigan starts arriving in late September and early October. For most of the Midwest, it’s the second half of October. A general rule of thumb for when to expect fall foliage is that the warmer the climate, the later the leaves change color. In turn, in the colder parts of the U.S., such as northern Michigan, the leaves change color sooner.
Michigan Has the Best Fall Colors, USA Today Says
The experts at USA Today have a new 10 Best poll out, where readers and experts together have determined the best places to see fall colors in America. “It’s that time of year when Mother Nature is gearing up for her annual spectacle of fall color,” they state. “And what better way to enjoy it than leaf peeping?”
What’s amazing is that Michigan is No. 1 on their tally, with USA Today naming the Upper Peninsula of Michigan the best place to see fall foliage in the entire county. “With around seven million acres of forest abutting the shores of three different Great Lakes, changing leaves are the main event each fall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,” they note in the article about fall colors. “With 10 fall color routes that cover a total of nearly 1,500 miles, there are endless opportunities for a peaceful autumn drive to soak in the scenery.” I’m really not surprised to see Michigan top the roster, because we have such gorgeous colors here.
Fall is the perfect time to look at scenic colors, especially in the Michigan area. We’re really fortunate to have such beautiful fall colors in this area, and looking at the colorful landscapes is always the perfect way to celebrate the changing seasons. If you’re wondering who’s right on Michigan’s tail, it’s the beautiful Laurel Highlands in Pennsylvania at No. 2 on USA Today’s tally.
