Viola Davis Is Officially An EGOT With Best Audiobook Win At 2023 Grammys
Viola Davis earned the coveted EGOT status with her win at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. The decorated actress won for a Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for her 2022 memoir Finding Me.
“I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola, to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything,” she said during her acceptance speech. “And it has just been such a journey. I just got EGOT.”

Davis won her first Tony Award in 2001 for her role in King Hedley II and her second for Fences in 2010. She later would receive her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the latter when it was adapted for film. In 2015, Davis won her Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy for her starring role as Annalise Keating in How To Get Away With Murder. She is the first black actor to win the Triple Crown of Acting (actors who have won a competitive Academy Award, Emmy Award, and Tony Award in the acting categories.)
The actress is the 18th person to achieve EGOT status. She joins a host of talented entertainers including Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, and Jennifer Hudson who recently became an EGOT with her Tony Award win for A Strange Loop.
