Sheryl Lee Ralph To Perform ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ At Super Bowl

January 25th 5:32 PM
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 15: Sheryl Lee Ralph attends the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards at Fairmont Century Plaza on January 15, 2023 in Los Angeles, California.

Rihanna won’t be the only one doing some vocal warm-ups during the big game. Sheryl Lee Ralph is tapped in to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the Super Bowl LVII. Ralph, who plays Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary, shared her excitement with her fans on Twitter Tuesday (Jan. 24).

“Someone wake me up from this dream! I’ll be singing Lift Every Voice and Sing at Super Bowl LVII – See you there.”

The NFL also revealed that Chris Stapleton will sing the national anthem, and Babyface will sing “America the Beautiful.” Back in September, it was revealed that Rihanna will serve as this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performer.

It comes as no surprise that Ralph was tapped in to sing for the Super Bowl as the Tony-nominated original star of Broadway’s Dreamgirls showcased her stunning voice recently during her 2022 Emmys acceptance speech. She sang Diane Reeves’ 1993 song “Endangered Species.” Ralph won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Barbara Howard in Abbott Elementary.

“To anyone who has ever, ever had a dream and thought your dream wasn’t wouldn’t, couldn’t come true I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like,” she said in her acceptance speech as she received a standing ovation. “This is what striving looks like, and don’t you ever, ever give up on you.”

Super Bowl LVII will be broadcast live from the State Farm Stadium in Arizona on Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
