This Michigan Ice Cream Shop Has the Most Delicious Flavors
One Michigan ice cream shop has been named one of the best in America by the tasting experts at Reader’s Digest. So, if you’re looking to get some extra delicious ice cream this season, take note. Summer is the perfect time to get your ice cream on. Actually, ice cream is delicious any time of the year, but when it gets hot outside, of course it feels good to lick some cold, creamy ice cream.
Delicious Michigan Ice Cream Named No. 1
The experts at Reader’s Digest have a new feature out about the best ice cream shops in America. In the story, they note just a few reasons why ice cream is such a perfect dessert. “What other sweet treat appears at all your birthday parties and helps you through every breakup?” they write. “What other food will cool you down when it’s 90 degrees outside, or stop a hot slice of pie from burning your tongue?” I just think ice cream tastes good, so that’s enough for me. It’s also good for a breakup. Just saying.
Before we get to Reader’s Digest’s pick for the best and most delicious Michigan ice cream shop, let’s look at the state’s most popular ice cream flavor. According to a new feature in Taste of Home magazine, Michigan residents love Superman ice cream. That totally makes sense, since Superman ice cream is a Michigan specialty. “This yellow, red and blue ice cream is typically a blend of cherry, lemon (or vanilla) and Blue Moon ice cream,” they explain. I think another local favorite would be Traverse City Cherry ice cream, because Michigan is known for its sweet and vibrant cherries.
So, which Michigan ice cream shop has been named one of the best in the country by Reader’s Digest and praised for its flavors? It’s Moomers Homemade Ice Cream. They make more than 150 flavors. “Visitors can pull up a stool at this quaint, family-owned shop in Traverse City,” Reader’s Digest states. “Sundaes are the best ice cream order at Moomers, and popular choices include the Turtle (any ice cream flavor with hot fudge, caramel, and butter roasted salted pecans) and the Udder Delight (a brownie sundae with ice cream smothered with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry).” I also have to put in a vote for the Michigan State University ice cream shop in East Lansing, the MSU Dairy Store, which has flavors inspired by the Spartans. It’s a must-visit for any MSU student or anyone coming through the area. What’s your favorite local ice cream shop? Reach out to me and let me know.
