2024 NFL Power Index Has Detroit Lions in Unbelievable Spot
The latest NFL Power Index has the Detroit Lions in a beautiful spot. It’s an exciting time to be a Detroit Lions fan. We made it to the NFC championship game for the first time in 30 years last season. We could have, and should have, won that game. But, some crazy stuff went down, and the San Francisco 49ers made it to the Super Bowl instead of the Lions. Never again. But, it’s great to see the NFL taking notice and giving the Detroit Lions the respect they deserve.
2024 NFL Power Index Has Detroit Lions in Unbelievable Spot
I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the Detroit Lions‘ spot on the 2024 NFL Power Index. Of course, I knew that we would be high on the tally. We made it to that NFC championship game last season, so we technically were within the top four teams in the NFL. If the NFL had a Final Four like March Madness, we would be in the Final Four. But, I guess that based on past experience, I still didn’t think the Detroit Lions would be getting much respect in the league.
The NFL recently released their 2024 NFL Power Index going into the new season. It has the San Francisco 49ers at No. 1, which really shocks me. I’m not happy about that, but I am happy about the other spots. The Kansas City Chiefs are No. 2 on the tally, the Baltimore Ravens are No. 3 and, yes, the Detroit Lions are No. 4. I may have put us above Baltimore, but I’ll still take it. I can’t remember a time when the Lions were this high on the Power Index going into a season. I actually don’t think it has happened in my lifetime. So, this is really a reason to celebrate.
But, next season is going to be tough. The entire NFC North is stronger this season. But, the Lions are stronger, too. In my recent interview with Lions quarterback Jared Goff at his Jared Jewelers charity event, he talked about the Strength of the NFC North. “Our division will be really good again,” he said. “It was really good last year, and I think we have four really good teams; four teams with playoff aspirations. It’ll be hard.” Listen to my full interview with Goff below, as part of my podcast “The Squad with Anne Erickson,” and reach out to me here.
