This is Who Should Be the New Detroit Pistons Coach
Monty Williams is out as head coach for the Detroit Pistons. So, who should be the new Detroit Pistons coach? I have some strong thoughts on this subject.
The New Detroit Pistons Coach Should Be This Guy
Before I get into the new Detroit Pistons coach possibilities, I should be upfront that I haven’t been quiet about being a fan of Williams. I thought he was a solid coach with a great background. In my opinion, the Pistons didn’t give him the time to turn things around. Nobody seems to remember that Dan Campbell hardly won any games his first season as head coach for the Detroit Lions. But, the Lions kept him, and now look at where the team stands. So, I’m not happy about the Williams decision, but I get it, and as my uncle said to me this morning, “Anne, your favorite coach is out, but he’s rich.” So, at least Williams is walking away with a ton of cash.
So, even with my beloved Williams out, I realize that I have to move on and hope for the best new Detroit Pistons coach moving forward. I know who I want in the role: Micah Nori of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Why? I have multiple reasons, but let me start with the fact that the Wolves are a team that Detroit absolutely should want to emulate. I want to see someone with a winning record at a winning franchise come to Detroit. Nori is a well-respected assistant coach with one of the best teams in the NBA right now. He helped take the Wolves to the playoffs and then some. The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III, listed Nori as one of the Pistons’ potential replacements. Edwards noted Nori’s strong connections with Detroit, such as working in the Motor City as an assistant on Dwayne Casey’s staff from 2018-2021 before heading to Minnesota. Unfortunately, there’s competition to get Nori. Both the Lakers and Cavaliers were reportedly interested in him, according to experts, although the Lakers now have their guy. But, maybe something about Detroit can intrigue him enough to have mercy and come here.
So, that’s who I want to replace Williams. But, who will the Pistons get? It could be Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego, who the experts at Yahoo Sports report Detroit is “strongly” considering as a replacement. I might seriously have a meltdown if they hire Borrego. We’re already hiring a lot of Pelicans staffers. Please, please, please don’t hire Borrego, guys. Nothing against Borrego, but we should switch it up. Let’s pray Detroit picks a good one. Again, my vote is for Nori. Contact me with your thoughts.
