Score Tigers, Pistons & Wings Tix At American Red Cross Blood Drive
Get ready to roll up your sleeves! The American Red Cross, in partnership with The District Detroit, is hosting its seventh annual blood drive at Little Caesars Arena, and they need your help to meet the lifesaving needs of those in our community. All donors who show up will score a voucher for tickets to a Detroit Tigers game and pre-season tickets to see the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings in action.
The American Red Cross is doubling down on the call for blood and platelet donors. They’re critically needed right now to keep up with the demand for lifesaving transfusions. All blood types are in demand, with type O being especially crucial.
While summer is often filled with vacations and outdoor adventures, it’s also a time when the risk of car accidents rises, especially among teen drivers. Did you know a single-car accident victim might need up to 100 units of blood? According to the American Red Cross, more than a quarter of all blood products each year go to critical care and emergency situations, highlighting the importance of generous blood and platelet donors.
Where to donate blood?
Mark your calendar for Thursday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and head to the Via Concourse at Little Caesars Arena, 2645 Woodward, Detroit. Donors will receive complimentary parking at the UWM Garage, just steps away from the Meijer entrance to the blood drive.
“We are thrilled to partner again with The District Detroit to ensure that lifesaving blood products are available to those in need,” said Beth Frahm, donor recruitment account manager with the Red Cross in Michigan. “When you give, you’re doing more than just donating blood—you’re helping to save lives.”
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. From new moms and premature babies to accident victims, people with sickle cell disease, and those undergoing cancer treatment. They also mention that the need for blood is constant.
As a thank-you, donors will receive two tickets to a Tigers home game and two pre-season tickets each to a Pistons and Red Wings home game (while supplies last), plus a $20 Amazon gift card via email. Donors will also have the opportunity to Spin the Wheel for a chance to win even more prizes.
Don’t forget your ID! You’ll need a blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other forms of ID to check in. If you’re 17 (or 16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health, you might be eligible to donate. High school students and donors under 19 should also be ready to meet specific height and weight guidelines to roll up their sleeves.
