Cedar Point Shuts Down Popular Ride
It’s difficult to believe, but summer is winding down, and that means you have to take advantage of amusement parks such as Cedar Point while you can. Unfortunately, Cedar Point has shut a popular ride down for the season, so if you were hoping to make it to the park to enjoy this ride before the season ended, you’re out of luck. At least Cedar Point still has plenty of great rides and attractions running through the end of the season.
Cedar Point Shuts Down Popular Ride
Top Thrill 2, the much-anticipated re-imagining of the park’s Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster, will not reopen this operating season, according to the Sandusky, Ohio-based park. According to organizers at Cedar Point, they’re dealing with ongoing work to modify the ride’s vehicles. They also state the closing has to do with the ride’s manufacturer, Zamperla.
Cedar Point announced that Zamperla, an Italian-based manufacturer, would be the official manufacturer of Top Thrill 2 in 2023. The original Top Thrill Dragster was manufactured by Intamin. Top Thrill 2 opened on May 4, 2024. However, a little over a week later, Cedar Point announced that the ride would have an “extended closure” because of a problem with the ride’s vehicles.
“We sincerely appreciate your patience while Top Thrill 2’s manufacturer, Zamperla, has been working diligently to complete a mechanical modification to the coaster vehicles,” Cedar Point said on its social media platforms regarding the popular ride. “Unfortunately, the manufacturer will not be able to complete the modifications needed in time to reopen the coaster in 2024.”
“We are extremely disappointed that we cannot open the ride this season, but remain committed to delivering a reliable, consistent and unparalleled coaster experience for our guests in 2025,” Cedar Point added, also giving a “sincere apology.”
I was never a big fan of the most coasters, so I’m not heartbroken about this news. But, I know many people who flock to that park to ride all of their favorite coasters, so for those who really wanted to try this particular popular ride, it’s sad news. Of course, considering the ride has been closed for almost the entire 2024 season, I don’t know why anyone would expect it to be open at all in 2024. Hopefully, they’ll be able to re-launch it next year with more fanfare.
Cedar Point’s regular season is almost over. The park is open daily until Labor Day, and then, it will be open select weekends through Nov. 2
