Report: Michigan Pulls Jim Harbaugh’s Contract Extension
Things are getting messy inside the Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan camp. According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal’s Andrew Beaton, has Michigan nullified a new contract for the football head coach due to allegations that the program was involved in sign-stealing. This contract, according to Beaton, would have made Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in the Big Ten. If Michigan pulls Jim Harbaugh’s contract extension, this will be a huge deal.
Michigan Reportedly Pulls Jim Harbaugh’s Contract Extension:
As for those allegations, the NCAA is currently looking into whether Michigan illegally stole opponents’ play-calling signs. The Wolverines suspended staff member Conor Stalions after a report came out that the NCAA is looking into allegations of violating rules that ban programs from in-person scouting of future opponents. According to the report, Stalions allegedly purchased tickets to more than 30 games.
Harbaugh has said that the reports about his contract being “rescinded” are not accurate. Harbaugh has also denied any knowledge or involvement. “I do not have any knowledge or information regarding the University of Michigan football program illegally stealing signals, nor have I directed staff members or others to participate in an off-campus scouting assignment,” he said.
Harbaugh’s hand has been slapped for not following the rules before. Earlier this season, the Wolverines imposed a three-game suspension on Harbaugh because of recruiting violations in 2021.
Harbaugh became head coach of the University of Michigan’s football program 2015. He had a rough start, as the Wolverines had several years of losses, including to arch rivals Ohio State. But now, the team is one of the best. They’re a a real national title contender. The Wolverines also have two Big Ten titles under him. The University of Michigan’s record with Harbaugh as head coach is 89-25. Harbaugh’s current contract runs though 2026. He signed the five-year, $36.7-million contract extension in 2022. There are rumors that he might leave the Wolverines to go to the NFL, but those rumors always surface around this time of year. If he does, it’s possible the NFL will still somehow hold Harbaugh accountable for any violations he made at the NCAA level.
