We've been hearing about this Michigan snowstorm for a week now. Much of Michigan will be part of a major snow system moving into the area late Monday (Jan. 8) and through Wednesday (Jan. 10). This won't be a clear-cut system, because it mixed rain and snow. The good news is that in certain areas of Michigan, much of the snow will melt quickly. But, other areas won't be so lucky. Or, if you like snow, then I guess you can consider it lucky. Here's a timeline for two major snowstorms this week.

As of Monday (Jan. 7), much of Michigan has winter weather alerts happening, and an upwards of 10 inches of snow possible in the Upper Peninsula. The snowfall will vary widely depending on where you live, as temperatures fluctuate. The main part of this storm is expected to begin very early Tuesday (Jan. 8) and run through Wednesday (Jan. 10), bringing a mix of snow, rain and winds.

For those in the Grand Rapids area, the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids predicting about four inches of snow. The dividing line, right now, is around the middle of the Mitten, with areas north of Grand Rapids and Alma having the highest chance of getting snow instead of rain and areas south of there getting a mix. The National Weather Service and Weather.com predicts that heavy snow will fall around Lansing, Ann Arbor, Detroit and Flint between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday, making for a messy commute. Then, areas north of Grand Rapids and Alma will see that snow turn to rain as the day progresses. But, you're not out of the clear yet, as when the temperatures drop, snow is expected again across lower Michigan, impacting the Wednesday morning commute.

But, get this. There's another system on the way. Right now, Weather.com predicts 5-8 inches of snow across lower Michigan Friday night (Jan. 12) into Saturday and more snow on Saturday. Lansing and Grand Rapids have the 5-8 inch prediction, while Detroit has 1-3 inches expected. We'll keep you posted on this next storm, too.
