Famed Michigan Restaurant Closes After 50 Years
It’s always sad to see a local restaurant close its doors. It’s extra upsetting when that restaurant is a popular Michigan restaurant that’s been in business for decades. Well, one famed Michigan restaurant is closing its doors after 50 years of operation. That’s a long time, so this one is extra sad.
The good thing about this story is that owners are leaving the door open, a little, to possibly come back. They say that it’s been hard to staff the restaurant, which is the main reason for closing. But, for an establishment that’s been around for more than 50 years, it would be great to see the place thrive once again. I really hope it happens, because I know a few people who loved this spot.
I’m talking about the Airport Tavern and Steakhouse. The restaurant is located near the Capital Region International Airport in Lansing, Michigan. The owners took to Facebook to announce they’re sadly shutting down. On Facebook, they stated, “Hi friends, as many of you have heard by now, yes we are closed. This was a decision that was not taken lightly and we are really saddened to have to make this statement to the community.”
They added, “We love and value each and every one of you for the years upon years of patronage. Your support means everything to us and it has been an honor to be part of the Lansing community for so long. The past year or so has provided us with many challenges, one being the lack of adequate kitchen staff. We are not sure yet what the future looks like but wanted to let you all know where we are at now. Please stay tuned for full details and updates and we navigate through this.” Along with the post, the restaurant posted a photo of a sign stating, “Temporarily Closed.” The sign also said they were dealing with some “some technical issues that we are working to resolve.”
