Surprise Michigan Snowstorm Hit Hard – Snow Totals This Week
It’s always so funny when there’s lots of buzz and talk leading up to a “big snowstorm,” and then, just a few inches fall. Then, one day, you might wake up not expecting any snow, only to find that you can’t get out of your driveway. That’s totally happened to me before. Well, the latter case happened to a lot of Michiganders this week. A surprise Michigan snowstorm dropped a lot of unexpected white stuff. Let’s get into the details and snow totals.
Parts of Michigan were spared from the snowstorm that rolling into Michigan on Tuesday (Jan. 30), but southeast Michigan was not so lucky. Some areas in southeast Michigan got more than five inches of snow. Other areas a little east and even central got more than four inches. Thankfully, this storm didn’t bring much ice or freezing rain. It also didn’t bring high winds, which could have knocked out power. So, this storm didn’t bring the widespread power outages that Detroit saw a few weeks ago. But, it was a still a surprise to see all that snow.
So, how much snow did we get? Dexter, Michigan, tops the list with 5.5 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS also reports that Lake Orion got 5.3 inches of snow; Washington and Wolverine Lake got 5.2 inches; Howell got 5.1 inches; and Novi and Milford got 5 inches of the white stuff. In the 4 inch range, Pinckney and Wixom got 4.8 inches; Lapeer and Farmington got 4.5 inches; Ann Arbor got 4.4 inches; Flint got 4.2 inches; and Rochester, Birch Run and Farmington Hills got 4 inches. Other cities hit include Macomb, Garden City, Roseville, Swartz Creek, Troy and Ypsilanti. Thankfully, a warmup is on the way for all of Michigan, including the Detroit area. With temperatures heading into the 40s, all of this snow should melt, which makes me a happy girl.
