Michigan State Park Named Most Beautiful in the Nation
The United States is teeming with national and state parks catering to outdoor enthusiasts. Among these, Michigan is home to one of America’s most beautiful state parks. According to a recent study conducted by Travel Lens, a travel website, the Porcupine Mountains have been recognized as the “most beautiful state park in the nation.”
Their analysis focused on reviews from platforms like Yelp and TripAdvisor to determine which parks received the highest accolades for their scenic beauty from visitors. Additionally, the study considered the total review count, specifically targeting those who used words such as “beautiful,” “stunning,” and “breathtaking.”
The study results highlight that 88.9% of reviews about the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness employed language synonymous with attractiveness. This expansive wilderness area, covering approximately 60,000 acres, proudly holds the title of being Michigan’s largest state park.
According to the state’s official website, the park includes a 35,000-acre old-growth forest, multiple waterfalls, an extensive network of rivers and streams, over 90 miles of hiking trails, diverse camping options including both modern and rustic sites, opportunities for backcountry camping, a segment of Lake Superior’s shoreline, and unparalleled scenic viewpoints.
In addition to earning the title of the “most beautiful state park in America,” Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park currently ranks #4 out of 20 for the best activities in Ontonagon, according to TripAdvisor. Reflecting on their experience, a reviewer shared, “This is a beautiful state park… One of the most beautiful in the country IMO!” They further noted, “The mountains are not overly tall. Think more Ozarks than Rocky Mountains.”
Their study ranks Porcupine Mountains Wilderness, Smugglers’ Notch in Vermont, and Grayson Highlands in Virginia as America’s top three state parks renowned for their scenic beauty. The study reveals that 76.19% of reviews for the second-ranked Smugglers’ Notch State Park include expressions like beauty and perfection. Concluding their compilation of the top three most aesthetically pleasing state parks, Grayson Highlands secures a place with 65.52% of reviews acknowledging its beauty.
